Hints For The Elementary School Substitute

                                                         Quick Tricks For The Substitute

Stickers work great for Journal Writing. Have students choose a sticker from one sheet so time is not wasted picking one.

Walking in the hall quietly can be a challenge. Carry your stickers and hand them out when you see a very quiet student doing the right thing. Others will notice quickly. Or say " You may move your conduct clip or magnet when we return to the room."

Many schools collect Box Tops and this can be a     perfect reward for good behavior.

Caught Being Good

Cut small strips of  paper and explain to the students that if they are caught
doing the right thing, following directions, working hard...being good...
they write their name on a slip of paper and it goes in a container. Anything
will work to place the slips into...a baggie, or a plastic cup. Half-way through
the day pull out a number of names and give the students some kind of reward.
This gets other students excited about getting their names added. Pull names at the end of the day as well. SAVE the slips for the teacher so good students may be identified. Students may be chosen more than one time.

Carry a book of short stories or pick out a chapter book in the classroom as an easy way to fill extra minutes. Students always love to be read to.

Vocabulary words or Sight Words work great as a quick Wheel of Fortune game or Hang Man game.
Stress that students must sit quietly and raise hands to participate.

Get Spooky With Halloween Puppets and Masks

Free Halloween Fun Ideas

Embrace the spirit of Halloween and use these fun free props from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

This clever box becomes your puppet theatre. Cut out the puppets and display in your class as a writing prompt.

The back of the box displays the names of each character and what they like to say. Tut Kingsly says "Wrap it up! I'll take it."

Write a story or a play.

There are great masks and coloring pages that you can print and cut out.

Andy Warhol Shoe Designs

A Creative Reference For MY SHOE'S GREAT ADVENTURE lesson.

Lessons continue to evolve and create new variations. As a teacher, each time a lesson is taught it needs to be fresh and exciting. Change what didn't work and add a spark to what was a success.
Explore the early works of Andy Warhol. He began his art career in advertising and many examples of his illustrations of shoes can be found. These offer a great inspiration for my lesson
 MY SHOES GREAT ADVENTURE.

Mechanical Sculpture : A Creative Lesson on TPT

"Oooh! Picasso"

I love this book! I include it as a reference for my sculpture lesson. Take a look at the lesson and start to collect items that can be recycled into creative sculptures. Picasso did it, you can too!
